POSITION TITLE:   Groundskeeper

 

FLSA:                      Non-Exempt

 

REPORT TO:           Grounds Supervisor

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                  

                  

               Ability to understand details written or oral instructions.

               Ability to communicate effectively.

               Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management;

               ability to work cooperatively with employees, and the general public.

               Ability to operate various automobiles and transport vehicles, e.g., car, utility truck,

               utility van.

               Through knowledge of, and ability to utilize materials, methods and equipment used

                in lawn care and general maintenance work.

                Ability to operate various basic tools and grounds keeping equipment, e.g., hammer

                screwdriver, wrench, saw, lawn mower, edger, chainsaw, blower.

                Ability to operate vehicles and some light equipment, e.g., forklift, tractor, trucks,

                High School diploma or GED; supplemental by three (3) years' experience in grounds

                maintenance, to include one (1) year within a lead position, and the ability to perform

                labor intensive work within difficult environmental conditions to include frequent lifting,

                pulling and pushing of 100 or more lbs.; or an equivalent combination of education,

                training, and experience.                        

  

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Inspect building exteriors and grounds as well as tasks assigned to employees e.g., edging, mowing, trimming, waste and litter removal, fertilizing, placing sod, raking, planting.
  2. Inspections maintenance and repairs on irrigation systems, playground equipment, structures, facilities, equipment, and other Parks facilities and grounds.
  3. Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., fallen debris spills, broken windows, broken locks.
  4. Coordinates the set-up and removal of equipment, tables, chairs, stages etc. for special events and programs.
  5. Plans and coordinates landscape program projects, e.g., planting, spraying, fertilizing, mulching, watering, transplanting, lawn care and maintenance.
  6. Assist with mowing and detailing of district grounds.
  7. Assists with relocation of furnishings, such as desks, tables, chairs, file cabinets, etc.
  8. Implement federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy in grounds area.
  9. Requisitions materials and supplies for projects and coordinates the efficient use of workers resources and equipment.
  10. Recommend disposal of obsolete equipment and purchase replacement equipment when necessary.
  11. Maintain district equipment and tools and perform preventative maintenance as required to insure proper working condition.
  12. Performs preventative maintenance on all lawn equipment.
  13. Ensure that all equipment is maintained in operating and optimum condition.
  14. Operate light truck to transport staff, lawn equipment, furniture and equipment throughout district.
  15. Interprets job assignments to staff under charge and assigns duties to crews of varying sizes and skills; establishes and adjusts work procedures to meet schedules.
  16. Independently plans and coordinates ground maintenance projects at multiple sites,; analyzes and resolves work problems, and assist workers in solving problems.
  17. Monitors productivity and work flow of crew under charge; ensures adherence to established deadlines and preventive maintenance schedules.
  18. Performs related duties as directed.
  19. Maintain safety standards in conformance with federal, state, and insurance regulations and develop a program or preventive safety.
  20. Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures.
  21. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  22. Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
