PRIMARY PURPOSE:

      

        Under the direction of the campus principal, facilitate and coordinate the implementation

        of classroom interventions and provide special instruction to individuals and small groups

        of students with identified needs.  Perform problem analysis using prescribed principles,

        methods and concepts.  Perform decision analysis and make decisions of considerable

        consequence for students in determining how best to aid in their learning process. Apply

        and interpret data, facts, procedures and policies.  Meet frequently with school administrators,

        other teachers, internal staff and parents to communicate information, data and alternative

        problem solutions.  Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the

        academic subject area assigned designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual,

        emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to

        function successfully in society.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

         

        Education/Certification

              Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

              Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject and grade level assigned

              Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned

 

        Special Knowledge/Skills              

              Knowledge of academic subject(s) assigned

              General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

              Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

              Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

         Experience

              Student teaching, clinical teaching or at least one year of approved internship  

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

         Instructional Strategies               

     

              1.   Develop lessons in collaboration with the classroom teacher that enable all

                    students to understand the objectives of the lessons.

 

               2.  Configure lessons to meet individual needs of students in need of intervention

                    strategies and services.

 

               3.  Work one-on-one or in small groups with students who need intervention in a

                    separate classroom.

 

               4.  Participate with the classroom teacher, building administrator and parents to

                    identify the amount and type of intervention students need.

 

               5.  Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s

                    curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. 

 

               6.  Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning

                    styles.

 

                7.  Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education

                     Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

 

                8.  Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials,

                     and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of

                     students assigned.

 

                9.  Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional

                     activities.

 

              10.  Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for

                     special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education

                     Plans (IEP).

 

               11.  Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and

                      methods according to district requirements.

 

               12.  Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).

 

               13.  Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

 

         Student Growth and Development

 

               14.  Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.

 

               15.  Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal

                      testing.

 

              16.  Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.  Sponsor outside

                     activities approved by the campus principal.

 

              17.  Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.

 

        Classroom Management and Organization   

 

              18.  Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical,

                     social, and emotional development of students.

 

              19.  Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student

                     handbook.  

 

              20.  Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment,

                     materials, and facilities.

 

              21.  Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

 

        Communication

 

              22.  Establish and maintain open line of communication by conducting conferences with

                     parents, students, principals, and teachers.      

 

             23.   Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community

                     members. 

 

             24.   Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.  

 

             25.    Maintain confidentiality.

 

       Professional Growth and Development

 

            26.   Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

      

       Other 

 

            27.   Keep informed of and complies with state, district, and school regulations and policies

                    for classroom teachers.     

 

            28.   Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.

 

            29.   Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.    

 

            30.   Serve as liaison between students in the program and their parents/guardians by helping

                    organize activities that foster and increase relations between the school and community. 

                    Help organize activities that promote family literacy.

 

            31.   Focus on curriculum issues for ELL students receiving bilingual services.

 

            32.    Design, development, and delivery of bilingual program curriculum, instruction,

                     assessment, and analysis.

 

            33.  Involvement in collaborative planning with regular education teachers to ensure fidelity of

                   curriculum implementation.

 

            34.  Attendance is anessential job function.

 

            35.  Perform other duties as asssigned.

                                                     

         

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

            Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

            

       Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

 

           Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping,bending,     

           pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks,

           and other classroom equipment.
