                                               Position Description

 

 

POSITION TITLE:        Licensed Specialist in School Psychology                         

 

FLSA:                           Exempt Professional

 

 

Primary Purpose:

     Perform professional psychological work in assessment, behavior management,

     and counseling for students with emotional disabilities, learning disabilities, and

     behavioral problems. Assess the psychological and psycho-educational needs of

     students referred to special education services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:                          

  • Master's degree in psychology from accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas license as an LSSP granted by Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
  • Experience in the public school setting and certification as a nationally Certified School Psychologist preferred                                                                            

REPORTS TO:              Director of Special Education

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  207 days and benefits provided according to Board policy.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes.
  2. Receive student referrals for special education and implement the appraisal process.
  3. Select and administer formal and informal assessments to determine if a student has a handicapping condition that could make them eligible for special education services according to federal and state regulations.
  4. Collect and organize relevant assessment data from student’s parents, cumulative folder, classroom teacher(s), other campus personnel, support staff, and any other outside resource people.
  5. Collaborate with building and support staff throughout the district to meet the needs of students.
  6. Make recommendations to the Director of Special Services concerning the need to obtain additional medical, psychological and/or psychiatric information on an evaluation.
  7. Participate as an IEP team member with functional behavioral assessments, behavior intervention plans and /or in the manifestation determination process.
  8. Participate in the Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) committee to assist with interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students according to district procedures.
  9. Review student records for the screening and evaluation process of students.
  10. Develop psychological evaluation reports and behavior management plans.

  11. May serve as case manager and implement the special education assessment process for students on assigned campuses.
  12. Consult with school staff regarding implementation of behavior intervention plans and in managing behaviorally disruptive students.
  13. Provide staff development training to assist personnel in identification and understanding students with disabilities along with understanding students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.

  14. Consult parents concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
  15. Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant individuals to enhance their work with students.
  16. Research new intervention strategies and new assessments in the areas of instructional strategies, behavior management, behavioral intervention plans and emotional disabilities.
  17. Conduct home visits as needed.
  18. Other duties as assigned by the administration.

Maintain emotional control under stress; high stress and fast-paced;  prolonged use of a computer; moderate lifting and carrying; regular district-wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
