Behavior SPED Paraprofessional
REPORTS TO: Principal
PAY GRADE: 2
QUALIFICATIONS:
(Must meet one of these 3 options when hired)
At least 2 years of study at an institution of higher education
Obtained an associate’s degree or higher
Meet a rigorous standard of quality test
Ability to interpret and establish appropriate rules, methods and techniques in maintaining
a disciplined academic environment
Ability to work well with children
Ability to communicate effectively
Some experience working with children and knowledge of conflict resolution techniques is
encouraged
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays, if needed.
2. Provide supervision for students assigned to the In-School Suspension classroom.
3. Work with students and staff on issues such as behavior management and prevention of
undesirable behaviors that resulted in students being assigned to ISS.
4. Monitor all ISS assignments, provide encouragement and feedback to students, monitor
tests and classswork, and provide instructional assistance as appropriate.
5. Help maintain neat and orderly classroom.
6. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
7. Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
8. Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
9. Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher; work with individual students
or small groups or whole class.
10. Help supervise students throughout school day, inside and outside classroom. This
includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
11. Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
12. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
13. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.
14. Maintain confidentiality.
15. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
