PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

The Instructional Coach position is designed for an educator committed

to positively impacting classroom success and student achievement. The primary purpose of the

Instructional Coach is to improve teaching and learning in Dayton ISD by ensuring the effective

delivery of state standards and the successful implementation of High-Quality Instructional

Materials.

 

Under the direction of campus and district leadership, the Instructional Coach supports teachers

by strengthening instructional practices and improving student outcomes through facilitating

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), supporting the internalization of the curriculum, and

modeling high-impact instructional strategies. This role requires a deep understanding of

effective teaching and learning practices, including differentiation to meet the diverse needs of

all learners.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification

 

Master’s degree from an accredited university preferred

Valid Texas teaching certificate

Demonstrated competency in the academic subject areas assigned

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

 

Advanced understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment

Ability to internalize effective lessons and coach peers to do the same

Ability to coach teachers in the critical attributes of instruction and student

engagement with diverse populations

Ability to collaborate in the evaluation of external instructional programs

Ability to increase teacher effectiveness based on student engagement and the

student work produced

Ability to interpret data to inform instructional practices

Excellent organization and interpersonal skills

Ability to plan and present professional learning

 

Experience

 

Five years of experience as a classroom teacher

 

Classroom coaching experience (i.e., specialist, team leader, department chair,

student teacher supervisor, teacher mentor, etc.)

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

 

Facilitate and lead effective Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) focused on data-

driven instruction, lesson internalization, and continuous improvement.

 

 Oversee and support the implementation of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM)

through classroom observations, coaching cycles, and timely, actionable feedback.

 

Design and deliver targeted professional development, including job-embedded coaching

with immediate and ongoing follow-up to ensure transfer into classroom practice.

 

Model high-impact instructional strategies and provide opportunities for teachers to

observe effective teaching through demonstration lessons and peer observations.

 

Analyze campus and classroom student performance data to identify trends, determine

instructional priorities, and guide PLC conversations and instructional decisions.

 

Identify teacher needs in instruction, differentiation, and assessment, and develop aligned

professional learning and coaching supports.

 

Support teachers in the planning process, including lesson internalization, aligning

instruction to standards, and using assessment data to drive instruction.

 

Train and support teachers in the development, administration, and analysis of

assessments, ensuring they can clearly articulate the purpose and use of each assessment.

 

Provide teachers with research-based strategies, resources, and tools to increase student

engagement and achievement, and facilitate the sharing of best practices across grade

levels and content areas.

 

Coach individual teachers and teams through goal setting, reflection, and action planning,

with regular check-ins to monitor progress and adjust support.

 

Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, and campus leadership to ensure

coherent and aligned instructional practices across the school.

 

Actively participate in campus leadership meetings, district instructional coach meetings,

and professional development to stay current on best practices and district initiatives.

 

Partner with administrators and the district Teaching and Learning team to plan,

implement, and refine curriculum and instructional practices.

 

Maintain high expectations for teaching and learning, while fostering a positive,

collaborative, and growth-oriented culture.

 

Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and a strong commitment to continuous

improvement, including consistent attendance and completion of other duties as assigned.
